All applicants wishing to study the full program must apply online using the University of Akureyri Communication Portal. A complete application is a general admission requirement. Each application is reviewed holistically by several members of our admission committee.

Before you apply

Are you qualified? Make sure that you have met or are on target to meet the general admission requirements. If your graduation is pending, please provide a progress transcript and the intended date of graduation. The University Centre of the Westfjords may offer a place on a conditional basis. The conditions will be specified in the letter offering you a place. You will have to meet those conditions before you can be admitted.

Choose the program. If you are in doubt about what program to study, contact the program directors of the University Centre of the Westfjords. You may also apply for both programs but note that the admission board might only offer admission to one program.

Apply

All applicants wishing to study the full program must apply online using the University of Akureyri Communication Portal. Make sure to switch to the English version of the portal - do not let the browser translate. No fee applies for applications to the programs of the University Centre of the Westfjords.

  1. Go to the communication portal of the University of Akureyri (link)
  2. Register and Login with an email address
  3. Fill in your information
  4. Apply to the study program of your choice.

In the "Programme" tab you select the study program you want to apply for. You can use one account to create multiple applications. The "Applications - overview" tab displays information about the study programs you have chosen. In the same tab, you can monitor the progress and status of your application.

Provide supporting documents

The University Centre of the Westfjords accepts scanned documents initially, for admission assessment, which can be uploaded to the application portal, but original copies must be submitted to receive an unconditional offer. Further information can be found in the section on supporting documents.

If you want to add any further documents to your application after you have submitted your application, we recommend you send them via email to applications@uw.is. Please name the documents clearly and add a short explanation. If you want to add documents to your online application in the portal, you must submit your application again.

Accept/decline an offer of admission

Each application is reviewed holistically by several members of our admission committee. Applicants will receive an answer regarding admittance by viewing their application status in the application portal. Those accepted into the University Centre will be sent various practical information. Registration for studies at the University Centre is confirmed upon reception of all documents and payment of the registration fee. Please refer to dates and deadlines for information on when to expect an admission decision.

Let us know if you decline the offer of admission so that we can give your spot to someone else.
