The University Centre of the Westfjords (UW) is thrilled to announce that applications for its two unique master’s programs are now open for the upcoming academic year! Whether you’re passionate about community development or the sustainable management of marine resources, these programs offer the opportunity to study the pressing issues facing coastal and marine environments in a dynamic, interdisciplinary setting.
The Coastal Communities and Regional Development program is a 120 ECTS MA program on the current and future challenges and opportunities facing remote regions and communities. It focuses on coastal communities along the Arctic, North Atlantic, and North Pacific, and links principles of Geography, Planning, Economics and Sociology. Topics include: depopulation, economic transitions, interest conflicts, resource use, innovation, and socio-economic development.
The Coastal Marine Management program is a 120 ECTS MRM degree (master's in resource management) in natural resource management that builds on a core of ecology, oceanography, management, and economics. Topics include: coastal protection, marine spatial planning, biodiversity conservation, protected areas management, sustainable fisheries & aquaculture, marine pollution, tourism, and the Arctic.
