Islands as Diverse Spaces 2024
A conference on islands and remote communities was held at the University Centre of the Westfjords in collaboration with the University of Iceland and the Árni Magnússon Institute for Icelandic Studies on 3–4 October 2024.
The aim of the conference was to draw attention to the importance of islands and remote communities, which are constantly evolving and therefore important subjects of research.
The Social and Solidarity Economy 2024
The conference The Social and Solidarity Economy was held at the University Centre of the Westfjords on 13 September 2024. The aim of the conference was to raise awareness among the public and local authorities of the importance and diverse activities of associations, institutions, and individuals within the social and solidarity economy for communities in the Westfjords.
When effectively supported, the participation of ordinary citizens in this economy can empower individuals, strengthen democracy in local communities, and promote greater social interaction and cohesion.
Society and Nature 2022
The 14th conference on Icelandic Society was hosted by the University Centre of the Westfjords 12 -14 May 2022 under the topic: Society and Nature - Head to head or hand in hand? The conference was held in Icelandic.
CoastGIS 2018
CoastGIS was held in Ísafjördur, Iceland - hosted by the University Centre of the Westfjords. It was the 13th consecutive symposium for an international exchange of knowledge, ideas and experience on how spatial data and information technologies aid marine and coastal zone managers and stakeholders in better understanding and managing coastal space and resources.
The CoastGIS 2018 conference's theme was Climate Change and Spatial Planning, to
address recent challenges in managing our coastlines effectively and sustainably.
Creative Power of the Westfjords 2018
The Creative Power of the Westfjords was a symposium held in 2018. The purpose was to explore the creative power of the Westfjords in Icelandic, historical literature. Also to draw a map of some of the manuscripts and literary works from medieval times to modernity that surface from the Deep of Ísafjörður. The symposium was part of the project Perceiving the Creative Power of the Westfjords, its objective being to gather
material for a book on the history of literature and culture in the Westfjords-region. The symposium was held in Iceland.
