Lunch Lecture: History of sewing machines in Iceland

At the Lunch Lecture on Friday, November 24, historian Arnheiður Steinþórsdóttir will give a talk called: From luxury to necessity, sewing machines in Iceland 1865 to 1920.

The first sewing machines arrived in Iceland in the middle of the 19th century. As a result, an interesting development took place when the number of sewing machines increased rapidly. The talk will discuss how sewing machines went from being a luxury item to a necessity that could be found in almost every home. Arnheiður has a master's degree in history from the University of Iceland and has recently moved back to Ísafjörður. The lunch lecture takes place in the cafeteria of the University Center from 12.10 to 13.00, the talk will be in Icelandic.
