Anna Sigríður Ólafsdóttir, also known as Annska, will present her master’s project in cultural communication at the University of Iceland. The project is titled: I Want You to Know – The Author’s Journey at the Intersection of Arts-Based Research and Book Writing.
In cultural communication, final projects are divided into two parts: a dissemination component and a research component. For her methodology, she chose innovative approaches in Iceland, such as arts-based research and autoethnography.
The structure of the book is designed so that the topics of discussion create its chapters, and the women's narratives are interwoven into a cohesive text, resulting in a collective chorus of women's wisdom.
The dissemination component consists of a draft of a book based on interviews with six women who speak to their 18-year-old selves, offering advice for life based on what they have learned from their lived experiences.
In the thesis, the process of creating the book's text is outlined, discussing how to conduct valid research that presents findings in this manner. It explores arts-based research, which has been gaining traction as a research method in recent decades, and creative nonfiction as a method of presenting research data. It also addresses how to write a thesis within the framework of autoethnography, using creative text rather than rigid academic language.
Annska works as a communications project manager at the Westfjords Development Agency. She holds a BA degree in Modern Studies from the University of Akureyri and an MA in Cultural Communication from the University of Iceland, as well as having studied Tourism Studies at Hólar University. She is also a certified 5Rhythms instructor and is endlessly curious about what makes people pulse.
The presentation will take place in the cafeteria at the University Centre of the Westfjords and will start at 12:10. The presentation will also be streamed via a Zoom link, which can be found here: https://eu01web.zoom.us/j/69947471079
