This talk will give an overview of the role of mycorrhizal fungi in Iceland soils and ongoing efforts to understand their importance in tree establishment, carbon storage, and ecosystem biodiversity. Talk will be in English.

Dr. Palmer is a biologist from Vermont with a MS in cell and molecular biology, a PhD in plant biology, and 10 years of research and teaching experience as a university professor. She came to Iceland in 2020-21 as a Fulbright Scholar working with Skógræktin to study soil fungi around Iceland and has recently returned as the Academic Director for the School for International Training (SIT) based here in Ísafjörður. Her talk will give an overview of the role of mycorrhizal fungi in Icelandic soils and ongoing efforts to understand their importance in tree establishment, carbon storage, and ecosystem biodiversity.
