There will be a talk at UW about the registration of swimming pool culture in Iceland to the website Living traditions and preparations for the nomination of swimming pool culture in Iceland to UNESCO.
Over the past few months, work has been done to register swimming pool culture in Iceland on the Living Traditions website.
The Living Traditions website is an overview of Iceland's intangible cultural heritage due to its membership in the 2003 UNESCO Convention on the Preservation of Cultural Heritage. The web is intended to be a platform for communities and groups to share living traditions.
Sigurlaug Dagsdóttir, project manager of the Living Traditions website at the Árna Magnússon Foundation, will talk about the registration of swimming pool culture on the website and describe the preparations currently underway regarding the nomination of swimming pool culture to UNESCO. Swimmers and other interested parties will also be invited to participate in discussions over a cup of coffee after the presentation and discuss their own view of Iceland's pool culture.
