Field trip to Thingeyri

Students from the course Sustainable Aquaculture struck gold during their field trip to Thingeyri on Wednesday. Instructors Peter Krost and Pierre-Olivier Fontaine took their students to visit Arctic Fish where they learned about its operation and were given a tour of the company at its base in the Blue Bank. After that, the group went out on a boat to have a look at the sea farming docks in Dýrafjordur.

Give Icelandic a Chance!

The campaign Íslenskuvænt samfélag - við erum öll almannakennarar just received a grant from the Development Fund for Immigration Issues. That means that last year's successful work will continue and improve this year, with more frequent and diverse program in 2023. A new slogan has been selected now: Gefum íslensku séns! (Give Icelandic a Chance!)

Three UW students get funding for sheep skin business

When it was announced recently who would receive the annual grants from the Westfjord Development Fund, there were quite a few UW affiliated names on the list. It shows that our current and former students, as well as staff, are incredibly innovative and enthusiastic about contributing to the communities in the Westfjords, as a result of coming here to study and work at UW.

Popcorn and science!

UW took part in a science communication event in Patreksfjörður last month, called "Popcorn, soda, and science." Rannsóknarsamfélag Vestfjarða, which is an interdisciplinary group of researchers from around the Westfjords, gathered at the local movie theatre in Patreksfjörður and invited the public to watch short informal science presentations while having popcorn and soda.

New receptionist

Ester Sturludóttir has been hired as one of two receptionists at the University Centre of the Westfjords.

Application portal is open!

As of today, we are open for applications for the next school year! The University Centre of the Westfjords offers two master's programs, Coastal and Marine Management and Coastal Communities and Regional Development. Note that all information can be found on UW's website but the application portal is hosted by the University of Akureyri.
